Malak Anshassi, Assistant Professor, Florida Polytechnic University

Malak Anshassi is an assistant professor at Florida Polytechnic University, where she teaches solid waste management, sustainability and life cycle assessment courses. Her research focuses on incorporating life cycle thinking into solid waste management. She previously conducted research using principles from sustainable materials management (SMM) to analyze the application of life cycle thinking to Florida’s solid waste management system to achieve the 75% recycling rate target. In her current research, she formulates SMM-based solid waste management and policy approaches that decision-makers from any region of the world can use to measure their waste management system’s environmental and economic impacts.

Tim Buwalda is a Principal at Circular Matters LLC. He has 30 years of comprehensive recycling and solid waste management consulting experience, working with both public- and private-sector clients throughout North America. Buwalda has a diverse range of hands-on experience and knowledge in a variety of areas, including recycling policy analysis (with EPR experience), recycling technology evaluations, materials sortability and recyclability studies, financial analysis, recycling program evaluation and optimization, recycling market analysis and recycling market development.
